Stevia and sugar free sweetenersand low carb too!Sugar free sweeteners have been around for some time now, but they have continued to evolve. Stevia is an herb that happens to be sweet, so some people use it for that. Over time, most chemically based artificial sweeteners were either replaced over time because of taste (or after taste) or health concerns. Stevia is not FDA approved as a sweetener however, only an herbal supplement. Thus we do not, and can not sell it as a sugar free artificial sweetener. We personally like its sweetness and taste (after using it for a few days and getting accustomed to it), and find no need for an extra sweetener when we use it as a dietary supplement. Chef Allan received an email from a naturopathic doctor, saying that using a lot of Stevia (50 drops of extract/day), could reduce his need for insulin. It was killer sweet, but he tried it, and did notice a change in his insulin demands (don't try this without checking with your physician though). But for an FDA approved sweetener, Splenda is the "latest and greatest" sweetener of choice. |
